Congress Raises Concerns Over Vote Count Discrepancies in Haryana Elections
In New Delhi, as the BJP nears a third consecutive win in the Haryana assembly elections, the Congress party has expressed concerns about inconsistencies in the vote count data provided by the Election Commission. Congress leader Pawan Khera highlighted a mismatch between the actual number of rounds counted and the data displayed on television. He noted that while 11 rounds had been counted, the Election Commission was still showing data from the 4th or 5th round. Khera questioned if there was an attempt to pressure the local administration by delaying data updates. He pointed out that in Jammu & Kashmir, live data was available for each round, unlike in Haryana.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also accused the Election Commission of influencing the results, drawing parallels to the Lok Sabha elections. He questioned if the BJP was trying to manipulate the administration by sharing outdated trends. Earlier in the day, Congress had begun celebrations as early trends showed them in the lead. Pawan Khera expressed optimism, predicting a full majority for Congress in both Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir. He humorously mentioned sending sweets to Prime Minister Modi.
However, as the day progressed, BJP candidates led in 48 of the 90 constituencies, while Congress led in 36. The Election Commission data at 12:20 pm indicated that between 6 and 12 rounds of counting were completed in most constituencies. Additionally, 4 Independents and 1 candidate each from the INLD and BSP were leading. Despite exit polls predicting a Congress victory, the BJP seems set for a hat-trick win in the Haryana Assembly elections.
