Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Criticizes PM Modi’s ‘Laal Kitab’ Remarks
Mumbai, Maharashtra: On Sunday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments about the ‘Laal Kitab’ or Red Book. Kharge pointed out that PM Modi had previously gifted this book to former President Ram Nath Kovind in 2017. During an event for the Maharashtra Assembly Elections, Kharge stated, “He (PM Modi) said this red book is an urban Naxalite book and piece of Marxist literature… He gifted the same book to the then President Ram Nath Kovind in 2017… He even said this book contains blank pages.”
Kharge’s remarks were in response to PM Modi’s criticism of Congress and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, where Modi claimed the ‘Laal Kitab’ of the Constitution that Congress was promoting was empty. PM Modi accused Congress of disrespecting Baba Saheb Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, by distributing a book with blank pages.
Earlier, Kharge had addressed PM Modi’s “empty Constitution” remarks, asserting that the Constitution is complete and contains everything. At a public gathering in Nagpur, Kharge asked Congress candidate Nitin Raut to send a copy of the Constitution to PM Modi, emphasizing, “This is the Constitution; it has everything inside it. He (PM Modi) said the pages of this red book, which Rahul Gandhi reads, are blank. He said it is ‘kora kaagaz’…Read this; is it blank? I would request Nitin Raut to send a copy of this book to him. Sahab ismein sab likha hua hai (Sir, everything is written in it).”
