New Delhi, India – August 26: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut over her comments on the farmers’ protest. Kharge accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government of having an anti-farmer ideology.

In a post on X, Kharge said, “Prime Minister Modi himself had derogatorily termed the farmers as ‘agitators’ and ‘parasites’ in Parliament… he even refused to observe two minutes of silence in Parliament for the martyred farmers. Modi Ji had also made a false promise of forming a committee on MSP and doubling the income of farmers.”

Kharge added, “When Modi ji can do all this himself, then what else can the country expect from his supporters except insult to the deceased farmers! This shameful and highly condemnable anti-farmer ideology is the DNA of the Modi government.”

Kangana Ranaut had stated in an interview that Bangladesh-like anarchy could have happened in India in the name of the farmers’ protest, suggesting that outside forces were planning to destroy India with the help of insiders.

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, also criticized Kangana Ranaut’s comments, accusing her of insulting farmers by calling them “rapists and representatives of foreign forces.” Gandhi wrote on X, “The propaganda machinery of the Modi government, which has failed to fulfil the promises made to the farmers, is continuously engaged in insulting them.”

Gandhi further attacked the BJP for not clarifying its stance on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and failing to provide relief to the families of martyred farmers. He asserted that the INDIA alliance would ensure a legal guarantee for MSP for farmers.

Meanwhile, the BJP distanced itself from Kangana Ranaut’s statements, stating that her comments do not reflect the party’s opinion. The BJP directed her to refrain from making such statements in the future and reiterated its commitment to social harmony.
