Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Criticizes Finance Minister Sitharaman’s Budget
New Delhi [India], July 23: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has termed the seventh budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as a ‘disappointing budget.’ Kharge accused the BJP-led NDA government of creating a budget to save their position by appeasing allies JDU and TDP.
Kharge pointed out that the budget has special allocations for Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, neglecting other regions. He emphasized that regions like Kalyan-Karnataka-Hyderabad, which have special constitutional status, were ignored.
Kharge criticized the BJP for neglecting 140 crore people to please their allies, stating, ‘This budget is more for the happiness of two of their friends.’ He also questioned the government’s achievements over the past decade, contrasting it with the Congress’s initiatives like MGNREGA, food security, health security, and education rights.
Highlighting the weak railway budget, Kharge mentioned recent accidents and the lack of reforms and funding for safety, track reconstruction, and coach manufacturing. He also noted the absence of provisions for legalizing MSP for farmers, subsidies for fertilizers, and pesticides.
Finance Minister Sitharaman’s budget announcement included new airports and medical colleges in Bihar, temple corridors, and special funds for the Rajgir Jain Temple site. Andhra Pradesh received Rs 15,000 crore for capital needs.
