New Delhi [India], July 1: Congress MPs KC Venugopal and Manickam Tagore have given adjournment motion notices in Lok Sabha, seeking a discussion on alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Manickam Tagore’s Notice

Manickam Tagore urged the House to suspend all listed business to discuss the ‘unprecedented cases of paper leaks in exams, including NEET-UG and UGC NET, and the failure of NTA.’

Parliamentary Disruptions

On June 28, both Houses faced several adjournments as Congress and other opposition parties demanded a debate on the NEET-UG controversy. No business was conducted in Lok Sabha on Friday due to these demands.

Rahul Gandhi’s Efforts

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi sought to raise the NEET-UG issue, but Speaker Om Birla stated that other issues could be discussed during the motion of thanks on the President’s address. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned opposition members for disrupting proceedings.

Rajya Sabha Disruptions

Rajya Sabha also saw repeated adjournments, with Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar expressing disappointment over Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge’s actions. The opposition later staged a walkout, and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh stated that Kharge was ignored and not allowed to speak.

Debate Amid Protests

The House eventually took up the debate on the motion of thanks on the President’s address amid ongoing protests, with BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi initiating the debate.
