Congress MP Phulo Devi Netam Falls During NEET Protest in Rajya Sabha

On June 28, Congress party’s Rajya Sabha MP, Phulo Devi Netam, was taken to the hospital after she felt dizzy and fell while protesting in the well of the House over the NEET issue. She was admitted to RML Hospital, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge visited her there.

Phulo Devi Netam said, “I fell after feeling dizzy. My BP was high. Now I am fine.”

The Lok Sabha was adjourned till July 1 due to the ruckus caused by the opposition’s demand for a discussion on the NEET issue. BJP MP Kangana Ranaut criticized the opposition’s conduct, stating, “You saw their conduct there. Speaker too rebuked them…But it seems that they (the opposition) are not ready to listen to anyone. We are here for the first time and are flummoxed about what has happened…It didn’t feel good to see them not letting anyone speak. Forgetting the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address, they were acting arbitrarily…I don’t think such conduct should be acceptable.”

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a criminal case on June 23 over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exams conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The NEET (UG) 2024 Examination was held on May 5, 2024, with over 23 lakh candidates appearing. An unprecedented 67 candidates achieved a perfect score, leading to widespread protests. The Ministry of Education has formed a high-level committee to recommend reforms in the examination process and improvements in data security protocols.
