Congress MP Hibi Eden Defends Rahul Gandhi Against Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s Criticism

New Delhi [India], July 30: Congress MP Hibi Eden has come to the defense of Rahul Gandhi following Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s critical remarks about Gandhi’s speech in the Lok Sabha. Eden stated that Rahul Gandhi has never spoken anything unparliamentary or behaved in an unruly manner throughout his public life.

“In his entire public life, Rahul Gandhi has never said anything unparliamentary. He has never behaved in an unruly manner, neither has he said anything on communal lines. In the 18th Lok Sabha, when Rahul Gandhi spoke on the President’s address and the budget, he was constantly being disturbed by senior ministers. The LoP is a shadow Prime Minister of the country and has a very important role to play in the Parliament. His rights cannot be ceased by any treasury bench or any government. Even if he says something unparliamentary, he is so democratic that he would immediately apologise to the Speaker,” Hibi Eden said.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw criticized Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for his speech in the Lower House on Monday, accusing him of undermining democracy and the Constitution. Vaishnaw referenced a past incident where Gandhi publicly tore an ordinance brought by his government, questioning his respect for constitutional limits.

This controversy arose after Rahul Gandhi drew parallels from the Mahabharata to criticize the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the Union Budget. Gandhi claimed that the country is trapped in a “Chakravyuh of lotus,” referring to the BJP’s symbol. He criticized the Prime Minister for prominently displaying the lotus symbol and suggested that a new Chakravyuh had been created in the 21st century, controlled by six key figures: Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Mohan Bhagwat, Ajit Doval, Ambani, and Adani.
