Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Urges Help for Flood-Hit Assam

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has called for immediate assistance from the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) for his flood-affected state of Assam. Heavy rains have inundated the state, breaching embankments and raising river levels.

Rescue Efforts

The Indian Air Force (IAF) rescued 13 fishermen stranded on a small island in the Brahmaputra River in the northern Dibrugarh region. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that previous rescue attempts by NDRF, SDRF, and Inland Water Transport boats failed due to rising water levels and strong currents.

Critical Situation in Kaziranga National Park

The flood situation in Kaziranga National Park has become critical, with 95 out of 233 forest camps submerged.

Government Response

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the flood situation. Sarma detailed the relief measures taken by the state government, and Modi assured full cooperation from the Centre. As of July 1, 19 districts have been affected, with 35 deaths reported. Thousands of people are sheltering in relief camps across the state.

Weather Forecast

The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted very heavy rainfall in Assam over the next few days.
