Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Predicts BJP’s Defeat in Haryana and J&K Elections

Biswanath (Assam) [India], September 24: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will lose the upcoming Assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. He believes the opposition alliance, the INDIA bloc, will win in all poll-bound states.

Criticism of BJP

During a press conference in Assam’s Biswanath, Gogoi criticized the BJP for delaying the election schedule announcements for Jharkhand and Maharashtra. He accused the BJP of lacking the courage to conduct elections and questioned their ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative.

Gogoi stated, “All of us know that they (BJP) will be defeated in Haryana and they will not be able to form the government in J&K. We have now realized that they want to win Jharkhand and Maharashtra by deferring the elections.”

Support from Shiv Sena (UBT)

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut also criticized the central government for delaying the election schedule in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. He suggested that the delay was to give more time to the current government in Maharashtra and to create trouble for Jharkhand’s Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

Election Schedule

Voting in Haryana is scheduled for October 5, while Jammu and Kashmir will have its second and third phases of voting on September 25 and October 1, respectively. Counting in J&K and Haryana will be on October 8. The election schedule for Maharashtra and Jharkhand is yet to be announced.

Election Commission’s Statement

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar explained that the high security requirements in J&K were the main reason for postponing elections in the remaining states. He stated, “Depending on the requirement of forces, we have decided to conduct 2 elections together. We cannot announce another election in the middle of the Jammu and Kashmir elections.”
