Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s Remarks
As the Assam by-polls approach on November 13, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi expressed confidence in the Congress candidates, stating that people are pleased with their selection. He also highlighted internal disagreements within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that many BJP members are dissatisfied with their leadership.
Congress Candidates for By-Elections
The by-elections will take place in five assembly seats: Behali, Bongaigaon, Sidli, Dholai, and Samaguri. Tanzil Hussain, son of former Assam Minister and Lok Sabha MP Rakibul Hussain, will run for Congress in Samaguri. Dhrubajyoti Purakayastha is the candidate for Dholai, Sanjib Warle for Sidli, Brajenjit Sinha for Bongaigaon, and former BJP leader Jayanta Borah for Behali.
Other Parties’ Candidates
The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), an ally of the BJP, has nominated Diptimoyee Choudhury for the Bongaigaon seat, despite some internal opposition. The United People’s Party Liberal, another BJP ally, has chosen Nirmal Kumar Brahma for Sidli. The BJP has announced Diganta Ghatowar for Behali, Diplu Ranjan Sarma for Samaguri, and Nihar Ranjan Das for Dholai.
