Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Criticizes Upcoming Budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
New Delhi [India], July 22: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has criticized the BJP-led NDA government over the upcoming Budget 2024-25, which will be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 23. Gogoi alleged that every budget under Prime Minister Modi is influenced by big businesses like Adani and Ambani and that the new budget will not provide any tax relief for middle-class people and the poor.
Prime Minister Modi expressed pride in presenting the first budget of the government’s third term, calling it a significant moment. He stated, “It is a matter of pride that after 60 years, a government has come to power for the third time and will present the first budget of the third term… This budget is important for Amrit Kaal and will set the direction for the next five years. It will also lay a strong foundation for our dream of ‘Viksit Bharat’.”
Earlier, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Economic Survey 2023-2024 in the Lok Sabha. The Economic Survey, prepared by the Economic Division of the Department of Economic Affairs, provides insights into the state of the economy and various indicators for 2023-24 and offers an outlook for the current year.
The Budget Session of Parliament, starting on Monday, will have 16 sittings over 22 days and is expected to conclude on August 12. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju mentioned that the session will mainly focus on financial business related to the Union Budget for 2024-25.
With this budget presentation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will surpass the record set by former Prime Minister Morarji Desai, who presented five annual budgets and one interim budget between 1959 and 1964. This will be Sitharaman’s seventh budget speech.
