New Delhi [India], June 28: Congress MP Deepender Hooda and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have expressed their discontent with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The issue arose when Speaker Birla rebuked Hooda for advising during the oath-taking of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

Deepender Hooda’s Response

Hooda, the MP from Rohtak, stated, “The country works as per the Constitution. For me, it’s a matter of happiness to say ‘Jai Samvidhaan’. I respect the Chair of the House. The Chair of the House also must respect Members of the House. In the last 20 years, my behaviour has been before the country and I have never used unparliamentary language.”

Incident in Lok Sabha

During the Lok Sabha session, Congress members chanted ‘Jai Samvidhan’ after Tharoor’s oath. Speaker Birla responded, “He is already taking oath on the Constitution,” to which Hooda replied, “You should not have objected to this.” Birla then asserted, “Don’t give me any advice on what I should or should not object to.”

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s Reaction

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized Speaker Birla, questioning why ‘Jai Samvidhan’ could not be chanted in Parliament. She highlighted that governing party members were not stopped from raising unparliamentary slogans, but objections were raised against an opposition MP chanting ‘Jai Samvidhan’.

Vadra wrote on social media, “The constitution by which the parliament functions, the constitution by which every member takes oath, the constitution by which every citizen gets protection of life and livelihood, will that same constitution be opposed now to suppress the voice of the opposition?”

Parliament Sessions

The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha began on June 24 and will conclude on July 3. The 264th Session of Rajya Sabha commenced on June 27 and will also conclude on July 3.
