Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi Criticizes BJP Over FIR Against Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi [India], September 29: Congress MP and advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after an FIR was filed against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The FIR is related to the alleged extortion of money through the now-scrapped electoral bonds scheme.

Singhvi’s Accusations

During a press conference, Singhvi stated that the BJP’s plan was sinister and that the FIR has revealed the true nature of the ruling party. He claimed that the electoral bond scheme helped certain firms ease their cases with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) or get out of custody. Singhvi demanded the resignation of Sitharaman and alleged that the total figure involved in the case is Rs 8,000 crore.

Jairam Ramesh’s Statements

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh also spoke at the press conference, alleging that the BJP obtained electoral bonds through four methods: prepaid process, postpaid process, post-raid, and shell companies. He called for the resignation of the Finance Minister and the formation of a Special Investigation Team and a Joint Parliamentary Committee to investigate the matter.

Legal Actions

Earlier, a Bengaluru court ordered the filing of an FIR against Nirmala Sitharaman and others following a petition by Adarsh Iyer of Janadhikar Sangharsh Parishad (JSP). The court directed the Tilak Nagar police station in Bengaluru to register the FIR.
