Congress Leaders Meet in Mumbai to Plan for Maharashtra Assembly Polls

The Congress core committee is holding a crucial meeting at Garware Club in Mumbai. Key leaders such as Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, Maharashtra in-charge Ramesh Chennithala, and Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole are in attendance. Other notable leaders include Balasaheb Thorat, Vijay Wadettiwar, Prithviraj Chavan, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Mukul Wasnik, and Avinash Pandey.

The meeting aims to develop a strategy for the upcoming assembly polls in Maharashtra. In the recent parliamentary elections, Congress emerged as the largest party in the state with 13 Lok Sabha MPs. Along with Shiv Sena UBT’s 9 MPs and NCP (Pawar)’s 8 MPs, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) won 30 out of 48 constituencies in Maharashtra.

A top party leader mentioned that the meeting will not only focus on the assembly polls strategy but also discuss the party’s position within the MVA alliance. Congress, being the largest party in the Maharashtra Assembly with 38 MLAs, will deliberate on regions, seats, and numbers for the polls. The NCP and Shiv Sena have seen a split since the last assembly polls, reducing their numbers.

The first round of meetings is scheduled at the Wankhede Stadium Conference Hall in the morning, followed by a second session at the party office in Tilak Bhawan post-lunch.

Congress aims to secure a significant share of the assembly polls, targeting winnable seats in regions like Vidharba, North Maharashtra, and Marathwada, where they have performed well. In the recent Lok Sabha polls, the INDIA bloc, which includes Congress, outperformed the NDA in Western Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Marathwada regions.
