Congress Leaders Demand Investigation into Haryana Election Results

In New Delhi, Congress leaders have raised concerns over the Haryana assembly election results, which they found unexpected. They have requested the Election Commission of India (ECI) to seal certain Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) that showed unusually high battery levels after a full day of use, pending investigation.

Meeting with the Election Commission

A delegation of Congress leaders, including KC Venugopal, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Ashok Gehlot, and others, met with ECI officials to discuss their concerns. Pawan Khera, a Congress leader, stated that they reported 20 complaints from various constituencies, with seven being written complaints. The ECI has assured them that they will investigate the matter.

Specific Complaints

The written complaints came from constituencies such as Karnal, Hodal, Panipat City, Kalka, Rewari, Narnaul, and Kalanwali. Congress plans to submit additional complaints within 48 hours. They also mentioned similar issues in Chhattisgarh.

Concerns Over EVMs

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Haryana Congress president Udai Bhan expressed doubts about the EVMs’ battery levels and the counting process. They requested that VVPAT slips be matched with EVMs to ensure accuracy.

The Congress party described the election results as “totally unexpected” and “against ground reality,” stating that they cannot accept the results. The ECI responded, emphasizing the importance of respecting the democratic process.
