Congress Leader V Hanumantha Rao Urges Central Government to Recognize Local Languages Amidst Tamil Nadu Language Debate

Congress Leader V Hanumantha Rao Advocates for Local Language Recognition

In Hyderabad, Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao has called on the Central government to prioritize local languages, such as Tamil, following a dispute between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Governor RN Ravi. Rao highlighted the Tamil Nadu government’s longstanding demand for local languages to be recognized alongside Hindi, opposing the imposition of Hindi alone. He emphasized the importance of giving equal importance to local languages, reflecting Stalin’s views.

The conflict began when MK Stalin wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stressing that the Indian Constitution does not designate any language as the national language, with Hindi and English serving only official purposes. Stalin suggested avoiding Hindi programs in non-Hindi-speaking states and criticized the celebration of Hindi Month alongside Chennai Doordarshan’s Golden Jubilee.

Governor RN Ravi responded by stating that Hindi should be celebrated alongside other languages, not seen as an imposition. Stalin countered on social media, asserting that Tamil is integral to Dravidian identity and pride. Ravi, in turn, accused Stalin of disrespecting the ‘Tamizh Thaai Vaazhthu’ and noted the Central government’s efforts to promote Tamil under Prime Minister Modi.
