Congress Leader Surendra Rajput Criticizes Maharashtra Government Over Badlapur Incident

New Delhi [India], September 24: Congress leader Surendra Rajput has criticized the Maharashtra government for its handling of a police encounter involving a rape accused in Badlapur. Rajput stated that the administration has ‘failed miserably’ and drew parallels between the situations in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.

The incident involved the alleged sexual assault of two fourth-grade girls at a school in Badlapur. The accused, a school attendant, was arrested on August 17 but died on September 23 after snatching a gun from a police officer and firing at him.

Opposition leaders, including Vijay Wadettiwar and Nana Patole, have demanded a judicial probe, questioning whether the encounter was staged to protect the school’s trustees. CPI-M leader Subhashini Ali accused the Maharashtra government of ‘saving’ the accused in similar cases.

However, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla alleged that while Maharashtra and Badlapur heaved a sigh of relief, the INDIA bloc was mourning the death of a rapist. He criticized the opposition for allegedly supporting rapists instead of the police and the public.
