Congress Leader Kuldeep Vats Responds to Brij Bhushan’s Comments on Wrestlers Joining Congress
New Delhi, India – Congress leader Kuldeep Vats has responded to former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s statement about Congress regretting the joining of wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia to the party. Vats accused Singh of speaking out of arrogance and criticized the BJP’s policies.
Vats Criticizes BJP’s Policies
Vats alleged that the BJP’s slogan “Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao” is a lie and accused the party of disrespecting soldiers and farmers. He mentioned the introduction of the Agniveer scheme for soldiers and the prolonged farmers’ protest at the Delhi border as examples of this disrespect.
“The arrogance that he has with him (Brij Bhushan)–he is saying all these ridings on the arrogance that he has in him,” Vats said. He also criticized the BJP for using force against farmers during their protest and for not supporting wrestlers when they raised their voices against injustices.
Brij Bhushan’s Allegations
Earlier, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh claimed that the joining of Phogat and Punia to Congress proves that the wrestlers’ movement was a conspiracy against him, orchestrated by the Congress party. He stated that the Congress would regret their decision and alleged that the protest was led by Congress leaders Bhupinder Hooda, Deepender Hooda, Priyanka Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi.
“On 18th January 2023, when the protest started at Jantar Mantar, I said that this is not a movement of sportspersons; Congress is behind it. Especially Bhupinder Hooda, Deepender Hooda, Priyanka Ji, and Rahul Ji. This is a movement of Congress. And today this thing has been proved,” Singh said.
Wrestlers Join Congress
On Friday, wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the Congress party, just a month before the Haryana assembly polls. Phogat was fielded in the Julana constituency for the upcoming Haryana polls, while Punia was appointed working president of the All India Kisan Congress. Both wrestlers resigned from their positions in Northern Railways earlier that day.
