Congress Leader Jairam Ramesh Criticizes PM Modi Over Increasing Imports from China

New Delhi [India], June 29: Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the rise in Indian imports from China and the involvement of Chinese companies in Adani Group’s solar project. Ramesh emphasized the need for a strategy to reduce dependence on China and ensure taxpayer funds do not benefit Chinese companies.

Ramesh alleged that the Adani Group has selected eight Chinese companies for its solar manufacturing project and requested special visas for 30 Chinese workers. He questioned the PM’s national security considerations, especially after the Galwan clashes in 2020.

Ramesh highlighted the increase in imports from $70 billion in 2018-19 to $101 billion in 2023-24 and criticized the concessions made to Chinese companies under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. He stressed the importance of prioritizing national interest over personal relationships.
