Congress Leader Abhishek Dutt to File Complaint After Boy Falls into Manhole in Delhi

New Delhi, August 3: Congress leader Abhishek Dutt announced on Saturday that he will file a complaint under Section 198 after an eight-year-old boy fell into a manhole covered with cardboard in Delhi’s Defence Colony area.

Incident Details

The boy, identified as Jasmeet Singh, was rescued after falling into the manhole in front of South Delhi Public School. The manhole was covered with a plyboard, which broke when Jasmeet stepped on it, causing him to fall into the sewer. Fortunately, his father, Ajeet Singh, and other people nearby quickly rescued him, and he did not sustain any injuries.

Statements from the Family

Ajeet Singh, the boy’s father, explained, “There was a plyboard on the sewer, it broke, and my child fell inside it. My wife held his hand, and people immediately pulled my child out. The pit was deep, so I had to lie down on the road and pull him out.” He added that he took his son to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for first aid and further treatment. Jasmeet remained at the hospital for 7-8 hours and is still feeling scared from the incident.

Abhishek Dutt’s Response

Abhishek Dutt criticized the administration, stating, “Today Delhi is in the news, whether it is the news of three student deaths or the news of a child falling into a manhole. The administration is not concerned with whether people live or die. The focus is on giving lame excuses. I am going to register the case under Section 198. I will register the FIR and demand compensation for the child.”

Previous Incidents

Earlier on August 1, a mother and child tragically drowned after falling into a waterlogged drain in Ghazipur, near the Mayur Vihar area of East Delhi, following heavy rainfall. On July 27, three UPSC aspirants lost their lives in a flooding incident at an IAS coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar.
