Congress Leader Abhishek Dutt Criticizes Delhi Government Over Asha Kiran Shelter Home Deaths
New Delhi [India], August 2: Congress leader Abhishek Dutt has criticized the Delhi Government for the poor conditions at Asha Kiran Shelter Home, where 14 deaths occurred in July. He accused the government of overcrowding the shelter and neglecting health facilities.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari also voiced his concerns, stating that the Aam Aadmi Party has brought Delhi to a bad situation. He mentioned that mentally challenged people at Asha Kiran are not given proper food or treatment.
Delhi Minister Atishi announced a magisterial inquiry into the deaths, with a preliminary report expected within 24 hours. She assured that strict action would be taken if negligence is found.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena called for a comprehensive investigation into all shelter homes run by the GNCTD, including Asha Kiran. He also requested that the families of the deceased be contacted and compensated.
NCW Chief Rekha Sharma condemned the conditions at Asha Kiran, stating that the shelter is overcrowded and lacks proper food, water, and medicine. She held Atishi responsible for the situation.
NCPCR Chairperson Priyank Kanoongo demanded postmortem reports and other details to determine the cause of deaths. He criticized the Delhi Government for not inspecting children’s homes regularly, leading to such incidents.
