Congress Holds Candle March in Siliguri for Justice in Kolkata Trainee Doctor Case
Congress workers in Siliguri, West Bengal, organized a candle march on Tuesday to protest the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. The protestors carried posters demanding justice for rape victims, and many people, including youngsters, participated in the march.
Earlier, doctors in Hyderabad held a candle march and a ‘Nukkad Natak’ (street play) on Tuesday. A protestor mentioned that despite the CBI investigating the case, there has been resistance from the state government, but the doctors remain hopeful about the CBI probe.
In Shimla, several doctors marched towards the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat on Tuesday, also demanding justice for the Kolkata rape and murder victim.
The Supreme Court directed all social media platforms and electronic media to remove the name, photographs, and video clips of the deceased in the RG Kar Hospital case. A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, noted that the victim’s identity had been published on various platforms. The court issued an injunctive order to prevent further publication of the deceased’s identity and photographs.
The Supreme Court also formed a 10-member National Task Force to recommend measures for preventing violence and ensuring safe working conditions for medical professionals.
The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.
