The Congress party has announced that former MLA Manoj Rawat will be their candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Kedarnath constituency of Uttarakhand. This decision was approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. The bypoll is set for November 20, with the vote count on November 23.

The by-elections will take place across 48 Assembly constituencies in 15 states, including Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal. Uttar Pradesh will see the largest number of bypolls, which are crucial for the BJP after losing ground in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

The Election Commission of India announced that the bypolls will occur in two phases. The first phase, covering 47 Assembly constituencies and the Wayanad parliamentary seat in Kerala, will be on November 13. The second phase, including the Kedarnath Assembly constituency in Uttarakhand and the Nanded parliamentary seat in Maharashtra, will be on November 20. The counting of votes is scheduled for November 23.
