Congress Expels Leaders Ahead of Haryana Assembly Polls
New Delhi [India], September 29: Ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections, Congress has expelled two leaders, Virender Gogria and Somvir Ghasola, for six years due to anti-party activities. This decision was announced in an official letter, which stated that the leaders were found to be fighting against the party’s candidates in the ongoing assembly election.
On September 27, Congress had already suspended 13 leaders for similar anti-party activities. Among those expelled was Sajjan Singh Dhull, a former candidate from the Pundri and Pai Legislative Assembly, who joined Congress in December last year.
State Congress Chief Udai Bhan has called for stern action against nine more party rebels who are either contesting against the party’s official nominees or supporting candidates from other parties. In a letter to AICC secretary and co-incharge of Haryana, Manoj Chauhan, Bhan recommended the expulsion of Sharda Rathore, Rohita Revri, Satbir Bhana, Rajkumar Valimiki, Kapoor Narwal, Virender Gogdia, Harsh Kumar, Lalit Nagar, and Satbir Ratera.
Haryana will go to the polls on October 5 to elect a 90-member state legislative assembly, with the counting set to take place on October 8. In the 2019 elections, the BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 40 seats, while Congress won 30 seats.
