Congress Criticizes RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s Remarks
In New Delhi, the Congress party expressed strong disapproval of comments made by Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS), regarding the situation of minorities in Bangladesh. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused Bhagwat of supporting a party that promotes disunity in India. Kharge stated, “You (Bhagwat) support the party (BJP) that wants disunity in the country.” He criticized the BJP for attempting to change the Constitution and making divisive statements about Muslims.
Kharge also responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim that Congress is influenced by Urban Naxals, saying, “(PM) Modi has no right to say this. Wherever his government is in power, atrocities are committed on people of scheduled castes, especially tribals.” He urged the Prime Minister to address these issues.
Congress leader Pawan Khera commented on Bhagwat’s remarks, noting that they were inconsistent with the RSS’s stance on minorities. Khera said, “It is good if he understood the condition of minorities through Bangladesh, but surprising that if minorities in India unite, they (RSS) see it as a threat.” He questioned why the RSS reacts negatively when Owaisi mentions Palestine in Parliament.
Earlier, during the annual Vijayadashami event in Nagpur, Bhagwat condemned violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, stating that all minorities are at risk as long as radical violence continues. He emphasized the need for unity and strength among Hindus worldwide and urged the Indian government to intervene.
Bhagwat also warned of a narrative in Bangladesh that views India as a threat, suggesting an alignment with Pakistan due to its nuclear capabilities. He claimed that certain countries are promoting this narrative to create similar conditions in India.
