Congress Criticizes BJP Over Security and Governance in Jammu

New Delhi, India – The Congress party has accused the BJP of failing to maintain security in Jammu and Kashmir. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh claimed that there has been a significant increase in terrorist activities and narcotics smuggling in the region.

Security Concerns

Jairam Ramesh stated that the number of active terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir has risen from 31 to around 50-60. He highlighted a tragic incident where nine pilgrims were killed in a terrorist attack in Reasi.

Economic Impact

Ramesh criticized the BJP for ending the 149-year-old Durbar move, which he said was beneficial for Jammu’s economy. The administration argued that the move to an e-office system would save Rs 200 crore annually.

Narcotics Smuggling

Ramesh pointed out that the rise in terrorist activities is linked to increased narcotics smuggling, with Jammu being a key area for smugglers. He claimed that narcotics consumption has increased by 30% in five years.

Governance Issues

Ramesh also accused the administration of failing in governance, citing increased crime rates, corruption, and lack of development. He mentioned that youth are leaving Jammu due to lack of job opportunities and criticized the administration for not investing in IT parks like neighboring states.
