Congress Challenges Election Commission’s Dismissal of Haryana Election Complaints

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has dismissed allegations made by the Congress party about irregularities in the recent Haryana elections. In response, the Congress submitted a counter-response, criticizing the ECI’s initial reply as generic and dismissive. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh shared the letter on social media, highlighting the ECI’s lack of specific responses to complaints in 20 Vidhan Sabha constituencies in Haryana.

The Congress accused the ECI of giving itself a clean chit and criticized the tone and language of the ECI’s response. They pointed out that many issues arise between the announcement of the Model Code of Conduct and the end of the election, often becoming apparent only after results are declared. The Congress expressed frustration with the lengthy process of filing an Election Petition when issues are not addressed promptly.

The party also claimed that despite filing numerous complaints against the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, the ECI has not taken action, while holding Congress leaders accountable. They criticized the ECI’s response to concerns about voting machine battery levels as obfuscating rather than clarifying. The Congress described the ECI’s reply as a standard explanation of machine functionality, lacking specific responses to their complaints.

On October 29, the ECI rejected the Congress’s allegations, calling them baseless and devoid of facts. Congress leader Pawan Khera reacted by criticizing the perceived arrogance of the Prime Minister and the Chief Election Commissioner.
