Congress Challenges Election Commission’s Dismissal of Haryana Election Complaints
In Kozhikode, Kerala, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal expressed dissatisfaction with the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) dismissal of Congress’s allegations regarding irregularities in the recent Haryana elections. Venugopal stated that the party is considering legal options, as the ECI’s findings and comments are not acceptable to them.
On November 1, Congress submitted a counter-response to the ECI, criticizing its initial reply as generic and dismissive of their complaints. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh shared the letter, highlighting that the ECI’s response was inadequate to address specific complaints in 20 Vidhan Sabha constituencies in Haryana.
The Congress accused the ECI of giving itself a clean chit and criticized the tone and language of its response. They pointed out that many issues arise between the announcement of the Model Code of Conduct and the end of the election, often becoming apparent only after results are declared. The party emphasized the need for timely resolution of grievances to avoid lengthy election petitions.
Despite the ECI’s rejection of Congress’s allegations as baseless, the party continues to challenge the findings and seeks further examination of the issues raised.
