Congress Appoints Gaurav Gogoi and K Suresh to Key Positions in Lok Sabha
New Delhi, July 14: The Congress party has made significant appointments in the Lok Sabha. Gaurav Gogoi has been named the Deputy Leader, and K Suresh has been appointed as the Chief Whip. Additionally, Manickam Tagore and Md Jawaid will serve as whips for the party.
Congress leader Sonia Gandhi sent a formal letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to inform him of these appointments. KC Venugopal, a Congress MP, shared the news on ‘X’, congratulating the new appointees and expressing confidence that the party, along with its allies in the INDIA bloc, will champion the people’s causes in the Lok Sabha.
Gaurav Gogoi represents Assam’s Jorhat constituency and faced BJP’s Topon Kumar Gogoi in the elections. K Suresh, the longest-serving Lok Sabha MP, has been an MP for 29 years and has won multiple elections from Kerala’s Mavelikkara constituency. He is also the working president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).
Earlier, the INDIA bloc had appointed Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of Opposition (LoP), ending a 10-year period without an LoP in the Lok Sabha. The Congress party has improved its seat tally to 100 in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, making it the second-largest party in the house.
