Congress Announces Second List of Candidates for Jammu and Kashmir Elections
The Congress party has released its second list of six candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The candidates are:
- Tariq Hameed Karra from Central Shalteng constituency
- Mumtaz Khan from Reasi constituency
- Bhupender Jamwal from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi constituency
- Iftkar Ahmed from Rajouri (ST) constituency
- Shabir Ahmad Khan from Thannamandi (ST) constituency
- Mohd Shahnawaz Choudhary from Surankote (ST) constituency
This list was finalized after a meeting of Congress’ Central Election Committee at its headquarters in New Delhi. Earlier, on August 27, the Congress had announced its first list of nine candidates, including prominent leaders like Ghulam Ahmad Mir and Vikar Rasool Wani.
Congress and the National Conference have formed an alliance for these elections. According to their seat-sharing agreement, the National Conference will contest 51 seats, and the Congress will contest 32 seats. They will also contest five seats against each other and have left one seat each for the CPI (M) and the Panthers Party. The Samajwadi Party has also extended its support to this alliance.
Jammu and Kashmir has 90 assembly constituencies, with 7 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and 9 for Scheduled Tribes. The region has 88.06 lakh eligible voters. The upcoming elections will be the first since the abrogation of Article 370. Polling will be conducted in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with the counting of votes on October 8.

Vote counting -: Vote counting is when officials count all the votes to see who won the election. It will happen on October 8 for these elections.
