Congress Announces New Candidates for Maharashtra Assembly Elections

The Congress Party has unveiled a new list of 14 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. Notably, Sachin Sawant has been replaced by Ashok Jadhav for the Andheri West seat. Other candidates include Anil Nathu Shinde from Amalner and Sanjay Narayanrao Meshram from Umred – SC, among others.

This latest announcement brings the total number of Congress candidates to 101. As the election date approaches, the ruling Mahayuti alliance, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, is ramping up its campaign efforts. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is also preparing for the elections.

The nomination process for the 288 assembly seats has commenced, with polling scheduled for November 20 and results to be announced on November 23. Earlier, the MVA alliance disclosed its seat-sharing plan for 255 constituencies, with each party contesting 85 seats. The remaining 23 seats will be distributed based on party lists.

Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole confirmed that Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) will each contest 85 seats. In the 2019 elections, the BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, and Congress 44. In 2014, BJP secured 122 seats, Shiv Sena 63, and Congress 42.
