Bahraich Encounter Sparks Criticism from Congress and Samajwadi Party

In Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, a recent police encounter has been labeled “fake” by Congress leaders, who blame the state government for the violence. The incident involved Sarfaraz and Mohammad Talib, who were shot by police while allegedly trying to flee to Nepal. UP Congress President Ajay Rai accused the government of using fake encounters to hide its failures. Congress MP Imran Masood emphasized the need for accountability for those who burned a market and misbehaved with women.

Congress leader Avinash Pandey expressed concern over the frequency of such encounters, while Aradhana Misra-Mona criticized the administration for not preventing the incident. Samajwadi Party leader Ravidas Mehrotra also held the government responsible for the violence, arson, and looting in Bahraich.

Amitabh Yash, Additional Director General of Police, reported that five accused have been arrested, with Sarfaraz and Mohammad Talib injured in a police exchange of fire. SP Bahraich, Vrinda Shukla, stated that the police acted in self-defense when the accused fired at them. The incident followed clashes during a Durga idol immersion procession, resulting in the death of Ramgopal Mishra and injuries to others.
