Congress and BJP Gear Up for Maharashtra Assembly Elections
As the Maharashtra Assembly elections approach, the Congress party is preparing to finalize its list of candidates. A Central Election Committee meeting is scheduled for October 20 to make these decisions. Recently, a meeting was held at Delhi’s Himachal Bhawan, attended by key Congress figures including Ramesh Chennithala, Nana Patole, Balasaheb Thorat, Vijay Waadettiwar, and Satej Patil. Ramesh Chennithala confirmed that the final decisions will be made on October 20.
Varsha Gaikwad, Mumbai’s Congress president, also emphasized that discussions are ongoing and the final list will be announced after the meeting. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also been active, holding a Central Committee meeting to discuss over 100 seats. The BJP is working with its Mahayuti alliance partners, including the NCP led by Ajit Pawar and Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, to finalize their candidates.
Additionally, the Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi (VBA) has released its third list of candidates, adding 30 more names. The Election Commission of India has scheduled the Maharashtra assembly elections for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23. The main competitors are the ruling Mahayuti Alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition.
