Congress Accuses BJP of Misleading Ad in Jharkhand Elections

Congress Files Complaint Against BJP Over Misleading Ad

Accusations of False Information

The Congress party has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The complaint accuses BJP of posting a misleading advertisement on social media, which allegedly contains false information about leaders from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Indian National Congress (INC), and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

Violation of Electoral Laws

According to Congress, the advertisement, posted on Facebook on November 9, 2024, violates the Model Code of Conduct and other electoral laws. The ad allegedly portrays the leaders of JMM, INC, and RJD in a negative and false light, aiming to spread baseless narratives against them.

Specific Allegations

The complaint highlights that the advertisement used actors resembling the leaders of JMM, INC, and RJD to make false allegations. One such claim is that these leaders are ‘Anti-Adivasi’ and are pretending to support tribal communities to serve personal agendas.

Jairam Ramesh’s Statement

Jairam Ramesh, Congress General Secretary in charge of communications, shared the complaint on social media, describing the ad as “disgusting” and a “serious criminality.” He urged the ECI to take immediate action.

Upcoming Elections

The elections for the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly are set to occur in two phases on November 13 and 20, with results announced on November 23.
