College of Fisheries Tripura’s New Research: Medicated Fish Fodder and Blue Transformation

The College of Fisheries Tripura, affiliated with Central Agriculture University Imphal, is conducting a research study to replace antibiotics with medicated fish fodder developed through scientific processes.

Research and Innovations

Dean Professor Arun Bhai Patel shared that the college is working on multiple studies, including replacing antibiotics with medicated feed. They have also created a fish museum with 303 varieties of fish from the North Eastern states.

National Fish Farmers Day

To celebrate National Fish Farmers Day, the college held a workshop on blue transformation. Stakeholders, including farmers, entrepreneurs, and financiers, discussed solutions to common problems. The goal is to bring a blue transformation to the state.

Scientific Fish Culture

Despite aquaculture being integral to the community, scientific fish culture is not widely adopted. The college is working on projects to reduce feed costs and increase profitability for farmers. They are exploring alternatives like Colocasia and Tapioca for traditional fish feed and have developed new techniques for Shidol (fermented fish) preparation.

Notable attendees included Professor Ranjit Sharma, Director of Extension Central Agricultural University, Imphal, General Manager NABARD, and Head of ICAR-R BU Choudhury.
