COGAT Urges UN to Speed Up Aid Distribution to Gaza
COGAT, the Israeli agency responsible for coordinating government activities in the territories, has reported that 600 trucks filled with humanitarian aid for Gaza are waiting to be distributed. Most of this aid is to be handled by UN agencies. COGAT has expressed concerns that the UN is not meeting expectations despite various measures taken to assist in the collection and distribution of aid.
Efforts to Improve Aid Delivery
COGAT has expanded the Gate 96 option, a new northern crossing for aid into Gaza, and is urging UN agencies to increase the number of trucks entering through this gate. The agency has also coordinated pick-up times, expanded routes to improve traffic to the crossings, and set up a tactical pause along the route to and from Kerem Shalom.
Recent Aid Transfers
In the last 24 hours, 47 humanitarian aid trucks have been transferred to northern Gaza. This includes 41 trucks from the Ashdod Port via the Erez Crossing and 6 tankers of fuel for humanitarian purposes. Additionally, COGAT facilitated a UNICEF mission to northern Gaza, providing vaccines and logistical equipment for a vaccination campaign.
COGAT emphasizes the importance of picking up and distributing aid to Gazans in need and assures continued facilitation of humanitarian aid across Gaza.
