Cockroach Removed from Young Man’s Stomach in Delhi Hospital
A 23-year-old man in Delhi was admitted to a private hospital with abdominal pain and difficulty digesting food. Doctors discovered a live cockroach, measuring 3 cm, in his small intestine. Dr. Shubham Vatsya, a Senior Consultant in Gastroenterology at Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj, led the medical team in performing a 10-minute endoscopic procedure to remove the cockroach.
Medical Procedure
The team used an endoscope equipped with two channels for air and water infusion and air suction. They activated the suction mechanism to pull the cockroach into the suction channel, safely removing it from the patient’s body.
Doctor’s Statement
Dr. Vatsya explained, “A live cockroach in the small intestine is a life-threatening situation, so we immediately proceeded with the endoscopy to remove it. The patient may have swallowed the cockroach while eating or it may have entered his mouth while sleeping. If not removed in time, it could have led to serious and potentially fatal infectious disorders.”
