CM MK Stalin Inaugurates Modern Housing for Foxconn Workers in Kanchipuram
Chief Minister MK Stalin is set to inaugurate a state-of-the-art Industrial Housing Facility at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Vallam Vadagal, Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu. This project is designed to provide modern, secure housing for female workers of Foxconn and other industries.
Project Details
The housing facility, located in Sriperumbudur Taluk, Kancheepuram district, spans 20 acres within the SIPCOT Industrial Park. Developed at a cost of Rs 706.50 crore, it aims to address the housing needs of the industrial workforce, especially women workers.
Features and Amenities
The complex can accommodate 18,720 workers across 13 blocks, each with a Stilt plus 10-floor design. Each dormitory-style room has six beds, with a total of 240 rooms in every block. The facility includes:
- Indoor games and outdoor play areas
- Solar water heaters and a 1 MW rooftop solar power plant
- Sanitary napkin incinerators and mosquito nets in all rooms
- RO plant for clean drinking water
- 1,170 CCTV cameras for round-the-clock security
- Dedicated kitchen and dining facility for 4,000 workers
- Rainwater harvesting, sewage treatment, solid waste management, and landscaping
Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Raja emphasized that this facility will enhance the quality of life for women employed in the rapidly growing manufacturing sector, particularly in the electronics manufacturing ecosystem centered around Foxconn.
