Cloudburst Hits Cherwan Kangan in Jammu and Kashmir, No Casualties Reported
A cloudburst struck the Cherwan Kangan area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday, causing significant damage to paddy fields and blocking roads. Vehicles were stuck in debris, and houses were waterlogged, disrupting movement. The SSG Road near Padawbal was blocked due to an overflowing canal. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
Rescue and Relief Efforts
Gulzar Ahmad, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Ganderbal, stated that the priority is to clear the roads and ensure the safety of affected residents. He mentioned that people whose houses were impacted have been rescued and moved to safer locations. The district police, administration, and private establishments are working together to clear the debris.
Bilal Mukhtar, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Ganderbal, praised the local community for their quick response in rescuing people before the police arrived. He advised travelers and those on the Amarnath Yatra to stay informed about the situation and wait for updates from the district administration.
Monsoon Fury Across India
In recent days, heavy monsoon rains have triggered flash floods and landslides in several states, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Kerala. Over 300 people have died in Kerala, 15 in Uttarakhand, and 47 are missing in Himachal Pradesh. Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams from the Indian Air Force, NDRF, and SDRF involved in relief efforts.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George reported that the death toll from landslides in Wayanad stands at 308 as of Friday.
