CJI DY Chandrachud Honors Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on Their Birth Anniversaries
New Delhi [India], October 2: Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary at Rajghat and the Supreme Court premises. Along with other Supreme Court judges, CJI Chandrachud also honored Lal Bahadur Shastri to mark his birth anniversary.
To pay tribute, the CJI and other judges garlanded a statue of Gandhi installed in the Supreme Court premises and a photograph of former Prime Minister Shastri. Mahatma Gandhi and Shastri, India’s second Prime Minister, were both born on this day.
Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. The whole nation pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on this day, which is marked as a national holiday. Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar town of Gujarat, Gandhi adopted non-violent resistance and led the freedom struggle against British rule, which resulted in India’s independence in 1947.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri is recognized for his slogan, ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan.’ Shastri was a visionary leader who understood the people’s language and led the country towards progress. He was deeply influenced by the political teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
