CITU Holds Rally in Kolkata for Justice in RG Kar Hospital Case
The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) organized a rally in Kolkata on Saturday to demand justice for the victim of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case. CITU president Subhash Mukherjee stated, “Today… we are rallying for justice for the victim of RG Kar Medical College rape and murder victim and punishment for the culprit.”
People and doctors in West Bengal have been protesting the brutal rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The victim was found dead in the seminar hall of the hospital on August 9.
The incident has sparked a political clash between the BJP and the state government, with the BJP demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
On September 10, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court remanded Sandip Ghosh and three others to judicial custody till September 23 in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital financial irregularities case. The Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI arrested Sandip Ghosh on September 2. Ghosh was under investigation for alleged corruption and financial irregularities at the college and hospital, following a directive from a single bench of the Calcutta High Court, which ordered the CBI to probe the matter.
On August 26, the CBI also concluded a second round of polygraph tests on Dr. Ghosh as part of their investigation into the rape-murder of a woman doctor at the institution.
