Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali to Join BJP Ahead of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Polls
Former Jammu and Kashmir minister Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi and is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He will announce his decision at a press conference tomorrow at 10:30 am at the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.
Ali mentioned that as Jammu and Kashmir is a Union Territory, every party has to work with the Central Government. He highlighted that even parties like PDP and National Conference have worked with the BJP in the past.
In other news, former Jammu and Kashmir minister Taj Mohiuddin has resigned from the Democratic Progressive Azad Party and plans to rejoin the Congress.
The Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases from September 18 to October 1, with vote counting on October 4. This will be the first election in the region in ten years, as the last assembly election was held in 2014. The region has 87.09 lakh total electors, including 44.46 lakh males, 42.62 lakh females, and 169 transgender individuals.
