Chinese Man Wang Caught Trying to Enter Taiwan Illegally on Rubber Dinghy
A Chinese national named Wang was found trying to enter Taiwan illegally on a rubber dinghy. He was discovered near the northern city of New Taipei on Saturday.
Rescue Operation
At 6:30am, Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration (CGA) received information from the New Taipei Fire Department about a person spotted near the Houkeng River estuary in New Taipei’s Linkou District. Upon arrival, they found a rubber dinghy about 100 meters from the shore. By 7am, CGA personnel and New Taipei firefighters brought the 30-year-old Wang to the shore. He was suffering from severe dehydration and was sent to the hospital.
Wang’s Story
Wang explained that he came to Taiwan to start a new life because he was heavily in debt back in China. A preliminary investigation revealed that he traveled on a 3.6m-long rubber dinghy, likely departing from Niuweitang Beach in Ningbo, Zhejiang province in China.
Legal Consequences
Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) stated that the incident is being handled by the CGA and will be transferred to law authorities for further investigation. According to Article 10 of the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area, no one from Mainland China may enter Taiwan without permission. The Immigration Act states that anyone entering Taiwan without permission could face up to five years in prison and/or a fine of up to New Taiwan Dollar 5,00,000.
