Chinese Authorities Deny Retrial for Tibetan Activist Anya Sengdra

Anya Sengdra, a 53-year-old environmental activist from Kyangchu Township in Tibet, has been denied a retrial by Chinese authorities. Sengdra, who is serving a seven-year sentence for “disturbing social order,” was arrested in 2018 for opposing local corruption and illegal activities. His lawyer, Lin Qilei, expressed frustration over the third denied appeal, stating that the court refused to review the case. International concern has grown, with UN experts urging China to drop the charges. This decision highlights China’s control over Tibetan activists, as seen in the recent detention of another Tibetan whistleblower, Tsogon Tsering, for exposing illegal mining.
