New Delhi, India – China’s Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, spoke about the improving relations between China and India at an event celebrating the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. He noted that since the beginning of the year, the two countries have enjoyed a momentum of improvement and development, maintaining high-level communication.

High-Level Communication and Meetings

Xu Feihong mentioned that Chinese Premier Li Qiang sent a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his reelection. Additionally, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The two countries have also maintained dialogues on border issues through diplomatic and military channels.

Trade and Personnel Exchanges

Xu highlighted that China has become India’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade volume reaching USD 92.5 billion in the first eight months of the year, a 4.1% increase from the previous year. He also noted that the Chinese Embassy and Consulates-General in India have issued over 400,000 visas to Indian people since last year.

Mutual Respect and Cooperation

Xu emphasized the importance of mutual respect, understanding, and trust between the two nations. He stated that President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have agreed that China and India are partners in cooperation and development opportunities, not rivals or threats. Xu expressed confidence in the ability of both countries to handle differences wisely and find mutually acceptable solutions.

Global and Regional Significance

Xu stressed the importance of strengthening multilateral coordination for the benefit of the Global South. He stated that cooperation between China and India would benefit not only the two countries but also Asia and the world at large. Xu concluded by expressing China’s readiness to strengthen communication and cooperation with India in international and regional affairs, advocating for an equal and orderly multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization.
