Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Ensures Safe and Smooth Chardham Yatra for Pilgrims
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], October 1: Pilgrims are excited about the Charm Dham Yatra as the journey has resumed with the end of the monsoon season. The government has increased security and improved travel management for the pilgrims. On September 30, 20,497 devotees reached Char Dham for Darshan, with the highest number of 7,350 pilgrims visiting Kedarnath Dham.
So far, about 38 lakh devotees have participated in the Chardham Yatra this year. The government’s swift response to the Kedar Ghati disaster has strengthened the pilgrims’ faith in the administration. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has prioritized the safety of Chardham pilgrims, and the government’s efforts have been well-received by the public.
On July 31, a major disaster struck Kedarghati, but the government quickly evacuated around 18,000 people safely. The Yatra resumed with improved footpaths and restored normalcy in the area. The second phase of the Yatra is now in full swing, with many pilgrims registering for October and November.
On September 30, apart from Kedarnath, 6,811 pilgrims visited Badrinath, 3,619 went to Gangotri, 2,717 to Yamunotri, 1,632 to Hemkund, and 115 to Gomukh. By September 30, a total of 37,91,205 pilgrims had visited Chardham, compared to 56.13 lakh last year, 46.29 lakh in 2022, and 34.77 lakh in 2019. The Yatra was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, with only 3.30 lakh and 5.29 lakh pilgrims respectively.
This year, the Chardham Yatra started 17 days late on May 10, while last year it began on April 23. The journey will continue until November. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized that a smooth, safe, accessible, and well-organized Chardham Yatra is the government’s top priority, ensuring a safe environment for all travelers.
