Passengers stranded on the Adi Kailash Yatra route in Uttarakhand due to landslides were rescued by helicopters on Sunday. The rescue operation was conducted under the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Rescue Operation Details

According to an official release from the Chief Minister’s Office, most of the stranded passengers were safely rescued. The operation was monitored by Chief Minister Dhami, who directed a war-footing operation to ensure passenger safety.

The local administration, NDRF, SSB, Uttarakhand Police, and Chipsam Aviation Company collaborated to bring the passengers to safety. The Chief Minister praised the efforts of the District Magistrate Pithoragarh, SSP Pithoragarh, and the rescue teams.

Passenger Safety

Chief Minister Dhami emphasized that passenger safety is the government’s top priority. The government is committed to ensuring a safe travel environment for both domestic and international passengers.

Monitoring and Execution

Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Suman personally monitored the rescue operation for three consecutive days. Passengers from Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Delhi were among those stranded due to heavy rains and landslides on September 13.

Under the Chief Minister’s instructions, a heli-rescue campaign was launched. On Sunday, 10 passengers from Khela and 30 passengers from Tamil Nadu were safely evacuated to the Army helipad in Dharchula. Unfortunately, one passenger, Swadesh Nandchahal, passed away due to ill health.

Some passengers are still staying in Narayanashram and will be rescued by helicopter. The local administration expects the travel route to be operational in two to three days as the BRO team works to clear the debris.
