Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Welcomes 940 New Forest Protection Force Recruits in Assam
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended a passing out parade for 940 new Assam Forest Protection Force recruits at Lachit Borphukan Police Academy in Golaghat. This induction increases the force’s strength by 120%.
Congratulating the recruits, CM Sarma said that the passing out parade is a moment of pride and achievement. He noted that the new constables, after rigorous training, have become assets to the state. The training included advanced induction at the police academy.
With a substantial number of women appointees, the recruits are empowered to fight encroachers and poachers. Assam’s forest area covers 26,832 sq km, which is 34.21% of the state’s total geographic area. The state has seven national parks and 17 wildlife sanctuaries, requiring adequate forest protection forces.
CM Sarma mentioned that the first Assam Forest Protection Force was established in 1984. He stressed the need for more forces to protect forest areas, especially those sharing inter-state boundaries. The recruits will help preserve Assam’s rich biodiversity.
In the last three years, all state government department recruitments have been transparent, allowing competent students to get jobs based on merit. Sarma referred to the imprisonment of former APSC members for unfair practices as a sign of a new era of honesty and transparency in Assam.
He announced plans to recruit another 600 Forest Protection Forces by next February and to dedicate a new building for the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy in October.
Environment and Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, MLAs Taranga Gogoi and Bhabendra Nath Bharali, DGP GP Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Home and Political Department A.K.
