Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel Highlights Gujarat’s Efforts in Delivering Government Schemes to Citizens
In Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced a new system to deliver government schemes directly to citizens’ homes, aiming for 100% coverage. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of accessible government services. The announcement was made during the RTI Week Celebrations at the NFSU campus, organized by the Gujarat Information Commission.
Chief Minister Patel emphasized the importance of transparency and citizen understanding of government procedures to reduce RTI applications. He noted that Gujarat’s budget has grown significantly since 1995, reflecting the expansion of government schemes. Patel highlighted the importance of cooperation and healthy competition for India’s development, citing Gujarat’s successful disaster management efforts.
India’s Chief Information Commissioner, Heeralal Samariya, praised Gujarat’s use of technology in facilitating RTI applications, enhancing transparency and trust in governance. He urged government departments to publish information online and recommended seminars to raise awareness about the RTI Act.
Gujarat’s Chief Information Commissioner, Dr. Subhashchandra Soni, noted the RTI Act’s role in simplifying information access. The state has nearly 40,000 information officers and uses video conferences to provide information. Over 11,000 public authorities operate in Gujarat, with online facilities for appeals and complaints.
The RTI Week celebrations included a seminar and the launch of three booklets related to the RTI Act, attended by state officials and civil organization representatives.
