Chief Justice DY Chandrachud Highlights Role of Advocates on Record at SCAORA Conference
In Panaji, Goa, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud emphasized the importance of Bar Associations like the Supreme Court Advocates on Records Association (SCAORA) in bridging the gap between the Court and its stakeholders. Speaking at the first SCAORA International Legal Conference, he described Advocates on Record (AoRs) as essential to the smooth functioning of the Supreme Court.
CJI Chandrachud stated, “The Bar and the bench are complementary to each other. We are mutual beneficiaries of each other and are here to learn from one another and to work towards the betterment of an independent and robust judiciary.” He highlighted efforts to make the Supreme Court more accessible through technology, such as e-filing and online appearances.
The Chief Justice noted that AoRs play a crucial role in the Court’s decision-making and are responsible for ensuring comprehensive representation of their clients. He stressed the importance of AoRs in increasing access to the Supreme Court for litigants and lawyers, especially in navigating court procedures.
Additionally, CJI Chandrachud shared his initiative to improve the remuneration of law clerks, urging senior lawyers to support their juniors for the growth of the legal profession.
